Hello! I’m Dylan, a sixth-form student from the UK with a passion for engineering, technology, and motorsport. Ever since I was young, I’ve been fascinated by understanding how things work. Rather than simply using technology, I enjoy exploring the design decisions behind it and finding ways to improve it.
Today, I’m studying A Levels in Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science, subjects that complement one another and allow me to approach engineering challenges from multiple perspectives. Mathematics gives me the analytical tools to model problems, Physics helps me understand the principles governing real-world systems, and Computer Science enables me to create software and simulations to bring ideas to life.
My long-term ambition is to study Engineering at university and pursue a career in motorsport or high-performance automotive engineering. I’m particularly interested in race engineering, vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, suspension design, and the integration of software with mechanical systems. I enjoy learning how small engineering decisions can have a significant impact on performance and reliability.
Outside the classroom, I spend much of my time working on personal engineering and programming projects. These projects allow me to apply what I learn in lessons while developing practical skills in CAD, electronics, programming, and problem-solving. I believe the best way to learn engineering is by building, testing, making mistakes, and continuously improving.
Programming has become an increasingly important part of my work. I enjoy using Python to develop simulations, automate tasks, and solve technical problems. Combining software with engineering opens up exciting possibilities, from modelling complex systems to analysing data and designing smarter solutions.
I also enjoy exploring modern engineering tools and technologies. Whether it’s computer-aided design, computational simulations, or rapid prototyping through 3D printing, I’m always looking for opportunities to expand my knowledge and develop new skills that will support my future career.
Beyond engineering, competitive swimming has taught me discipline, resilience, and consistency. Years of training and competition have shown me the importance of setting long-term goals and continually striving for improvement. Alongside competing, I coach younger swimmers, helping them build confidence and develop their technique. Coaching has strengthened my communication, leadership, and teamwork skills, all of which I believe are just as valuable as technical ability.
I’m fortunate to have gained experience beyond school through engineering-related opportunities, such as work experience at McLaren Automotive, allowing me to see how professional engineers collaborate to solve complex challenges. These experiences have reinforced my desire to work in an industry where innovation, creativity, and technical excellence come together.
